How much does a website cost?
A small business website can cost a few hundred dollars or several thousand. We only build sites for local service businesses, such as plumbers, roofers, dentists and lawyers, which keeps our price between $299 and $630. Our website cost calculator above sets the price from your market: it counts how many people in your city search for what you do and plans one page for each group of searches.
| What you get | Price |
|---|---|
| Home, about and contact pages | $299 |
| Each extra page for a service or nearby area with real searches | $15 |
| Most you'll pay, however big your market is | $630 |
If your market supports more pages than $630 covers, we build the ones with the most searches first and you can add the rest later.
What affects web design cost
How many people search for your services
A roofer in Houston has more to target than a roofer in a town of 20,000. More searches for separate services, like roof repair and roof replacement, means more pages worth building, so the price moves with your market instead of with a package name. Most web design calculators ask you to guess how many pages you want. Ours counts them from your searches.
Nearby cities and neighborhoods
If people in the suburbs around you search for your service with their own town name, a page for that town helps you show up there. The calculator only suggests those pages when the searches exist.
Who you compete with
Add up to three competitors and we'll show you whether they appear in the top Google results and on Google Maps for your main search.
Local SEO
A site that nobody finds doesn't bring in customers. Every build includes page titles for your city, your service area and the basic technical setup Google expects.
Small business website cost
For most small businesses, a site with five to ten pages, a contact form and local SEO covers what customers look for: what you do, where you work, what it costs and how to reach you. You can read more about average small business website cost or see our small business web design options.
Cheap web design vs. affordable web design
A cheap website builder can get you online for very little, and for some people that's enough. The trade-off is time, since you design and write it yourself. Affordable web design means you pay a fair price and someone else does the work. Compare the two in our guides to cheap and affordable web design, choosing a cheap web design company and cheap website builders.
Website cost by platform
The platform changes the monthly bill more than the build price. Shopify charges a monthly plan and fees on sales. Squarespace and Wix bundle hosting into a subscription. WordPress is free software, but you pay for hosting and plugins. The website building cost calculator above prices the build on any of them. We break down two of them: WordPress website cost and Wix website cost.
Redesign and maintenance
If you already have a site, a redesign can reuse your content, domain and photos. See how much it costs to redesign a website. After launch, updates, backups and security patches have a cost too, covered in website maintenance cost. For packaged options, see web design packages and our full web design pricing guide.
