Websites for Indianapolis businesses
Indianapolis is the capital and largest city of Indiana and the county seat of Marion County. It sits on the West Fork of the White River, and its slogan, "Crossroads of America", comes from its history as a transportation hub. The city and county governments are consolidated, so "Indianapolis" covers a wide area, from Downtown out to neighborhoods that feel suburban.
That wide footprint, plus fast-growing suburbs in Hamilton and Johnson counties, means Indy customers usually search with a neighborhood, a suburb or "near me". Your site needs to say clearly where you work.
What people in Indianapolis search for
Dentists and hair salons lead the trades in Indianapolis at 3,600 monthly searches each. Plumbers and lawyers follow at 1,600, then HVAC and auto repair at 1,300. Landscaping shows 1,000, and roofing and electricians 880. Competition for these searches is lighter than in coastal metros, so a well-planned site can rank with fewer pages.

Indianapolis is the opposite of Chicago. Five of the top six are local studios' own pages, several leading with review counts or ownership details in the title. Buyers here see real companies right away, which raises the bar: your page needs proof of work and a clear process to compete.
Indy places customers mention
- Neighborhoods: Downtown, Mass Ave, Fountain Square, Broad Ripple, Irvington, Meridian-Kessler, Butler-Tarkington, Castleton, Nora and Haughville
- Suburbs: Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Greenwood, Avon, Plainfield, Brownsburg and Lawrence
- Roads: I-465 (the loop around the city), I-65, I-69, I-70, I-74, Keystone Avenue and Meridian Street
- Landmarks: the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Lucas Oil Stadium, Monument Circle, Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the Indianapolis Zoo
People here often describe locations as "inside 465" or "outside 465". The north suburbs in Hamilton County are some of the fastest-growing areas in the state, with lots of newer homes. Older neighborhoods like Irvington and Meridian-Kessler have homes from the early 1900s. Those differences change what customers need, and good area pages reflect them.

That's what a roofing search from Indianapolis looks like. The businesses in the map earn most of the clicks. Reviews, a complete Google Business Profile and distance matter most, and your site confirms the details.
Weather and seasons in Indianapolis
Central Indiana gets hail, strong spring storms, hot summers and cold winters. Roofers and siding companies see bursts of demand after storms. HVAC companies get two peaks, summer cooling and winter heating. Plumbers see frozen pipes in January and sump pump calls in spring.
We plan pages around those peaks:
- Storm damage and insurance claim pages for roofers, explaining how you work with adjusters
- Separate furnace and AC pages for HVAC companies
- Emergency pages with a phone number at the top for anything urgent
A page plan that fits Indy
| Page | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Home | Main service, "inside 465" or the suburbs you serve, phone and reviews |
| Service pages | One per service you want more of |
| Suburb pages | Carmel, Fishers or Greenwood when there are searches and you work there |
| Storm or emergency page | For roofers, plumbers and HVAC |
| About | License, insurance, years in business and team photos |
Real numbers from one of our sites
This chart uses real Google Search Console data from a client site, with the name hidden. That client isn't in Indiana. We show it to illustrate the approach, not to promise the same curve.
Where Indy business sites usually go wrong
- No suburbs. Many of the best customers are in Hamilton County, but the site only says "Indianapolis".
- Storm pages that appear after the storm. By then the searches have peaked. Build them ahead of time.
- Old phone numbers and hours. They frustrate customers and confuse Google.
- No reviews on the site. Indy customers check them. Show your best recent ones near the top.
Trade by trade in Indianapolis
Dentists. At 3,600 monthly searches, dentists are tied for the busiest trade in our Indy data. Patients choose by location, insurance and hours. The best dental sites here list accepted insurance, show the office on a map and let people book online without calling.
Hair salons. Also at 3,600 searches, salons win on photos, reviews and easy booking. Show real work from your chairs, list starting prices and put a booking link at the top.
Plumbers and HVAC. Plumbers see 1,600 searches a month and HVAC 1,300. Both have strong seasonal peaks. Separate pages for furnaces, AC, water heaters and frozen pipes let each one rank, and a tap-to-call button handles the emergencies.
Lawyers. "Lawyer indianapolis" gets 1,600 searches a month. Most people search by practice area, so a page for each one you handle, like family law, injury or criminal defense, works better than a single services list.
Roofers. With 880 searches a month in the city alone, roofing demand jumps after hail. Storm and insurance pages, a gallery of finished roofs and clear warranty information do the heavy lifting.
Landscapers. At 1,000 searches, landscaping is seasonal. Spring cleanup, mowing plans, snow removal and hardscaping each deserve a page if you offer them.
Inside 465 or the suburbs: planning your pages
A business based in Castleton that works mostly in Fishers and Carmel needs a different site than one based in Fountain Square serving the near south side. Here's how we usually plan it:
| Your situation | What we build |
|---|---|
| You work mostly inside 465 | A strong home page plus a few neighborhood pages with real searches |
| You work mostly in Hamilton County | Pages for Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville and Westfield, written for newer homes |
| You cover the whole metro | Service pages first, then area pages for the places that send the most jobs |
| You're on the south side | Greenwood, Franklin Township and Beech Grove pages if you work there |
We don't build a page for every town around the city. Each area page has to earn its place with real searches and real jobs.
What to have ready
Projects move fastest when you send a few things at the start: your list of areas, the services you want more of, photos from Indy jobs, your license and insurance info, and the questions customers ask most often. Rough notes are fine. We turn them into pages.
Choosing a web designer in Indianapolis
You'll see local agencies, freelancers and directories when you search. Ask each one how they'd decide which pages your site needs, who will own your domain, and what you'll pay after launch. If they can't explain how your customers in Carmel or Broad Ripple search, they're guessing.
The process
- Run the calculator with your trade and Indianapolis.
- Tell us where you work, inside 465, the suburbs or both.
- We write, design and build the pages, using your photos.
- You review and we make changes before launch.
- We connect your Google Business Profile so the map and the site match.
Demand by trade in Indianapolis
Monthly Google searches for trades plus "indianapolis", from DataForSEO:
| Search | Searches a month |
|---|---|
| restaurants indianapolis | 18,100 |
| dentist indianapolis | 3,600 |
| hair salon indianapolis | 3,600 |
| lawyer indianapolis | 1,600 |
| plumber indianapolis | 1,600 |
| auto repair indianapolis | 1,300 |
| hvac indianapolis | 1,300 |
| landscaping indianapolis | 1,000 |
| electrician indianapolis | 880 |
| roofing indianapolis | 880 |
| therapist indianapolis | 880 |
| contractor indianapolis | 720 |
| house cleaning indianapolis | 320 |
| real estate agent indianapolis | 260 |
Two things stand out. Dentists and salons have the biggest pools of searches after restaurants, so competition for those pages is stronger and a thin page won't hold up. Trades like house cleaning and real estate show low city-wide numbers, which usually means customers search by suburb or with "near me" instead. For those businesses, suburb pages matter more than the city page.
How Indianapolis searchers word it
| Search | Searches a month |
|---|---|
| web design indianapolis | 720 |
| web design indianapolis indiana | 720 |
| indianapolis web design companies | 210 |
| web design company indianapolis | 70 |
| indianapolis web design firm | 30 |
| affordable web design indianapolis | 20 |
Most people type the plain version. Few add "affordable" or "firm", so the buyer here is usually just looking for someone reliable, and the site that explains price and process clearly tends to get the call.
Suburbs as their own pages
Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Greenwood and Avon are separate cities, not neighborhoods, and residents often search with their own city name. A service business working across Hamilton and Johnson counties can earn calls with a page for each suburb it actually serves. Each page should mention jobs done there, travel times or service days, and reviews from local customers. Pages that only swap the city name tend to get ignored by Google and by readers.
Example page plan for an Indianapolis HVAC company
| Page | Main search it targets |
|---|---|
| Home | hvac indianapolis |
| AC repair | ac repair indianapolis |
| Furnace repair | furnace repair indianapolis |
| Installation and replacement | hvac installation indianapolis |
| Carmel | hvac carmel |
| Fishers | hvac fishers |
| Greenwood | hvac greenwood |
| About and contact | Included |
The exact list comes from the searches the calculator finds for your trade and area, so yours may look different.
What Indianapolis customers check before they call
When someone in Indianapolis finds your site from a search, they usually decide in seconds whether to call. The questions running through their head are predictable. Do you serve my part of town, whether that's Broad Ripple, Irvington, Fountain Square or out in Avon? Can you come this week? Are you licensed and insured? What will it roughly cost? Is there someone real answering the phone?
Your home page should answer all five above the fold on a phone: service areas in a short line, a tappable phone number, a booking or quote button, license or insurance mentions where they apply, and either a price range or a clear explanation of how you price. Everything else, from your history to your values, can sit lower on the page. Businesses that put those answers first tend to get more calls from the same traffic.
Winter and summer in your page plan
Indianapolis has cold winters and hot, humid summers, and searches shift with them. Furnace repair, frozen pipes, ice dam roof repairs and snow removal rise in winter. AC repair, lawn care, mosquito control and deck building rise in summer. Keep pages for both seasons live all year so they're already indexed, and refresh them before each season starts with current photos, prices and availability.
How much an Indianapolis website costs
The same as anywhere with us: $299 base, $15 for each extra page, a $630 cap. Most Indy businesses land in the lower half of that range because they need fewer pages than businesses in very large metros. Read our guide on how much a website costs to compare.
