Websites for Iowa businesses
Iowa is a state of mid-sized cities and many small towns. Des Moines and its suburbs, like West Des Moines, Ankeny, Waukee and Urbandale, are the biggest market. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City make up the Corridor. Davenport and Bettendorf form the Quad Cities with Illinois. Sioux City sits on the Nebraska and South Dakota line, and Dubuque on the Mississippi. Then there are hundreds of towns where a contractor might cover three or four counties.
Customers search for their town, and in rural areas, their county. A site that names both helps you show up.
Where Iowa searches for website design
Des Moines leads at 390 searches a month, and DataForSEO shows "web design des moines iowa" at 390 too. Iowa City shows 210 and Cedar Rapids 110. Davenport, Sioux City, Dubuque and Ames are around 10 each.

That's the Google map for HVAC in Des Moines. Hot summers and cold winters make heating and cooling a year-round search.

Iowa's markets
Des Moines metro. Fast-growing suburbs like Ankeny, Waukee and Grimes, insurance and finance employers and many new homes.
The Corridor. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, with the University of Iowa, a large hospital system and rental housing. Coralville and North Liberty are growing too.
Quad Cities. Davenport and Bettendorf with Moline and Rock Island across the river. Businesses here often work in both Iowa and Illinois.
Western and Northern Iowa. Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Mason City, Fort Dodge and Waterloo. Wide service areas and farm work.

Registration and licenses
Iowa requires contractors to register with the state's Division of Labor, and electricians, plumbers and HVAC contractors hold state licenses. We show your numbers in the footer and on the about page.
Storms and seasons
Spring and summer bring hail, wind and severe storms, and the 2020 derecho showed how fast roofing, siding and tree work can flood a region. Winters bring furnace calls, snow removal and frozen pipes. Planting and harvest seasons matter for ag businesses.

Des Moines' suburbs drive the growth
The Des Moines metro has grown faster than most of the Midwest, and most of that growth is in the suburbs. Ankeny, Waukee, Grimes, Johnston, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Clive, Altoona and Norwalk each have new subdivisions and families who just moved in. These customers search for everything: HVAC, landscaping, fencing, cleaners, pediatric dentists, daycares. A business with a page for each suburb, with local photos and reviews, catches many of those searches.
Older Des Moines neighborhoods like Beaverdale, Sherman Hill and the south side have homes from the early 1900s with old plumbing, wiring and basements that leak.
The Corridor and the Quad Cities
Iowa City's 210 searches a month are high for its size, likely because of the university, the hospital and a lot of small businesses that serve students and staff. Coralville and North Liberty have grown quickly. Cedar Rapids, half an hour north, has manufacturing and food processing and rebuilt many neighborhoods after the 2008 flood. In the Quad Cities, businesses often work on both sides of the Mississippi, and pages for Moline, Rock Island and East Moline help reach Illinois customers.
Farm country and small towns
Most of Iowa is farmland dotted with small towns, each with a grain elevator, a school and a main street. Businesses in places like Pella, Decorah, Spencer, Storm Lake, Carroll and Le Mars often serve several counties. Farm equipment repair, grain bin construction, ag drainage, seed dealers and veterinarians sell to farmers who search online for capabilities and service areas.
